Background Information

Hi! I hope you'll find something useful. I'd like to share some background information about two classes, Click & Read, and Daikei. Please go ahead and use any of the pages for your ESL/EFL classes with computers if you would like :-) However, please let me know how it went and what you thought about them! Thank you...

Click & Read 2003

  • Student level: Pre-intermediate to intermediate.
  • Course objectives: English Reading - especially reading online articles efficiently.
  • Textbook: Reading Power (Longman).Reading Power: Reading for Pleasure,...
  • Classroom environment: We meet once a week. Every other week, we use a computer room. There is one computer per student.
  • Class schedule: We meet once a week from April to July, and then from October to January. One class lasts for 90 minutes. When we are in computer room, we use the computers for about 60 to 70 minutes (we have quizzes and vocabulary handouts - that's the other 30 - 20 minutes). Also, when we are not in a computer room, we use Reading Power and learn reading skills such as scanning, skimming, and predicting.

Daikei 2003

  • Student level: Beginner.
  • Course objectives: General purpose English.
  • Textbook: ABAX Workbook for new words and expressions. This book lets students keep new vocabulary. Because it's a general-purpose class (and we have different levels within one class), we decided to go with this book.
  • Classroom environment: We meet once a week in a computer room. There is one computer per one student. Also, there is one monitor for every two students so that teachers can send visual aids from teacher's computer or overhead projector.
  • Class schedule: We meet once a week from April to July, and then from October to January. One class lasts for 90 minutes. However, in class, we use activities and handouts that are not online as well. This makes the class time with computers about 50 minutes.
